  Advent Refelcetion

We are now well and truly into the time of Advent and are making preparations for celebrations to come. The seasonal festivities are well under way as the decorations and lights have been up for weeks, the advertisers are trying their best to convince us to give their products as gifts for our loved ones, and the concerts, parties and family gatherings are filling up the diary. It’s a time for love and laughter, sharing and giving.

For those of us who know and love the Christ-child it is a time to rejoice over the most generous gift of all. We have the hope of Advent in our hearts, but we should not keep it to ourselves. We should be asking ourselves how we can share the joy and love we know with those around us. Do we have family or friends who don’t know Jesus? Do they know why this time of year is important to us? Why don’t we pray about opportunities to share with them?

Or are there those in our neighbourhood or town who are struggling? Those who could use some assistance, some seasonal goodwill? Can we keep our eyes open to the opportunities that we may be given to help someone, to reach out and extend that hand of hope to them?

If you or your church find creative or successful ways of reaching out to others this Christmas then we’d love to hear about them.
