The 160th General Assembly of the Jamaica Baptist Union will take place on 24th -28th February, 2010, and will mark a time of change for the Union. We will be saying thank you to our outgoing President, the Rev. Stephen Jennings, and welcoming our new President, Rev. Cawley Bolt. The assembly will also mark the start of our new theme for the next decade: “Being God’s People in God’s World”; and on Wednesday, 24th February at Boulevard Baptist Church, we will begin our contemplation of the theme for the next two years, “Living in Hope.” During the week, the theme of hope will be expounded through plenary sessions, workshops, discussion groups, worship services, and creative responses.
The overall theme for the workshops and group discussions is “Why Hope?” and will include the topics, “If not hope, what else?”, “Hope – Giving power to potential!” and “The Stewardship of Hope.” Another highlight will take place on Thursday when the Rev. Dr. Hyacinth Boothe will deliver the David Jelleyman Lecture on the topic, ‘Ministers as Midwives of Hope’. Saturday afternoon will see us host a special fundraising benefit for our brother, Rev. George Simpson. Further details will be given nearer to the time of the assembly.
On Sunday 28th February, we will conclude the assembly at the National Arena where, as well as installing a new president and executive committee, we will worship together, share in the Lord’s Supper and hear from the Rev. Trevor Edwards on the subject “Having a reason for the Hope that is within you” and the outgoing JBU president, the Rev. Dr. Stephen Jennings with the topic, “Hope thou in God”.
General Secretary, Rev. Karl Johnson, said, “We are eagerly anticipating all that the General Assembly will hold this year and we hope that many of you will join us for what we are sure will be an uplifting and inspiring time together.”
